Terms of use
These terms apply when you use Marine Rescue UAE. By using the app or the website you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
The service
Marine Rescue UAE is a free, volunteer, peer-to-peer map for the UAE coast and Musandam. A boat with a problem can ask nearby boats for help, and boats that can help can say so. We only connect boats with each other: we do not send rescuers, we do not alert the Coast Guard or the police, and we cannot promise that anyone will come. The service is free, has no advertising and makes no money.
Not an emergency service
Not a replacement for the Coast Guard. In an emergency call 996 (Coast Guard) or 999 (Police), or use VHF Channel 16.
Do not rely on Marine Rescue UAE alone. When a life may be in danger, call the Coast Guard or the police first and use your VHF radio. The app, the internet connection or your phone can fail at sea.
Help is voluntary
Everything is voluntary. Nobody is obliged by this service to answer a call for help, and nobody is paid to help. Asking for help, offering help and going to another boat are your own decisions, made at your own discretion and risk. The skipper of each boat stays responsible for the boat and everyone on board and should never put them in danger to help. This does not change any duty you have under the law or the rules of the sea.
Your responsibilities
When you use the service:
- Use it only for real situations at sea. Never send a false or test distress call.
- Keep your boat details correct, and enter only a phone number that is yours.
- Use other boaters' contact details only to give or get help: no advertising, no sales and no harassment.
- Do not put other people's personal data, insults or advertising in your message.
- Do not try to break, overload or copy the service, its apps or its data.
- Follow the laws and maritime rules that apply where you are.
Accuracy and availability
Positions, distances, reach circles and arrival times are estimates. They depend on phone GPS, the internet connection and what other users enter, and they can be wrong or out of date. The maps are not for navigation. The service is provided “as is” and may be interrupted, changed or stopped at any time without notice.
No liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Marine Rescue UAE and the volunteers who run it are not liable for any loss, damage, injury or death that arises from using or not being able to use the service, from information shown in it, or from what other users do or fail to do. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Misuse
We may end a status or remove a boat's data when the service is misused, for example for a false distress call, advertising or harassment.
Your data
How we collect, show, keep and delete data is explained in our Privacy policy. You can stop using the service at any time: open Settings → Delete my data in the app, then remove the app.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The new version is published on this page with a new “Last updated” date. If you keep using the service after that, you accept the new terms.
